DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 2, 2001) - The Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series released its Pre-Entry List for the Sun Automotive 200 with the number of entries up from last year's race. Twenty-six cars have pre-entered for the April 21 night race at Phoenix International Raceway, with additional late entries expected. Only 23 cars completed in last year's race. The Sun Automotive 200 is the second Rolex Sports Car Series race this season that has seen an increase in the number of entries.
Among the teams entered into the Sun Automotive 200 is defending-champion Robinson Racing, with Jack Baldwin and George Robinson returning behind the wheel. The team has rumored that it might debut its new Riley & Scott Mark III-C in its quest to defending its Sun Automotive 200 title, although it has released no official announcement on which car it will compete the SportsRacing Prototype class.
Archangel Motorsport Services will travel to Phoenix with a pair of Nissan Lolas hoping the #22 and #21 can take the top-two spots in the SportsRacing Prototype II class, however the 2000 class champions have faced tough competition all season from Porschehaus Racing's pair of Nissan Lola, the #88 and #89. The rivalry between the two teams is expected to continue at the Sun Automotive 200 making for some exciting SRPII racing.
Two Phoenix natives will vie for the GT-class victory in front of a hometown crowd as Darren Law and Terry Borcheller compete against each other. Law will join Matt Drendel in the G&W Motorsports' #81 Porsche GT3 R, while Borcheller will suit up with Toney Jennings in the #54 JET Motorsports BMW M3. The battle between these two should be a fierce one, as they both want a victory in their hometown. Borcheller is fresh off a GT-class win at the Nextel 250, where Law finished just behind him in second place.
