EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH STARWORKS MOTORSPORT DRIVER, MIKE FOREST:
Mike Forest joined Starworks Motorsport last winter and just finished his first full Rolex Series Daytona Prototype season. Forest finished 10th in the 2010 Rolex Series season point standings. After leading 17 laps and scoring three podium finishes including two 2nd place at Lime Rock and Daytona in July with his teammate, Ryan Dalziel, the young Canadian speaks about his great season and thinks about what the next 2011 Rolex Series with Starworks Motorsport is going to be.
Are you satisfied with this first season with Starworks Motorsport?
"I am very happy with the job Starworks Motorsport has done in its first year. Personally, I am pleased with the progress I made as a driver. I think in almost all cases I was able to pass on the car to Ryan without many scratches so he was able to do his job and close out the race with a strong car. I really enjoyed working with Ryan Dalziel and Bill Riley. We all had very good communication and were able to develop the car to become a contender in most races".
What do you think of the job of the entire team in 2010?
"Peter Baron has assembled a very solid team and our season proves it. Each and every one on the team worked really hard. They are a very talented bunch and I look forward to the future to see what we can accomplish at Starworks".
If you could start the season all over again after what you just went through, what would you change to make it better?
"The only thing I wish went differently were the 2 mechanical failures we had. I know the parts were still within their life window so it comes down to wishing the parts didn't fail prematurely, which is a tall order. I guess those stung a bit more because they were on weekends when we had our strongest cars of the year. But bad luck strikes and there isn't much you can do about it. So, that said, I wouldn't change anything else. If we can keep this program together we will become a force in the Rolex Series".
How do you rate your teammate Ryan Dalziel?
"I would rate Ryan at the top of the charts. He is an amazing driver and a good person. We got along really well right from the beginning and as the season progressed we really developed a good understanding with each other. He is a great coach and provides great guidance during the race weekends".
This season the #8 team registered seven top five finishes in only 11 races including two 2nd place finishes, one 3rd place finish, a 4th place finish and three 5th place finishes. Starworks finished in the top five 60% of the time. What is your best memory of the season?
"I would say the best memory from the season would be the 2nd place we achieved at Barber. It was early in the season and we had already had some good races but getting a podium assured us that we were going to be contenders throughout the season. I was able to lead a number of laps that race and Ryan did a great job avoiding another car making a dive bomb pass and went on to make some great passes on the way to the team's first podium".
How happy are you to have been sponsored by Corsa Car Care and their incredibly successful activation plan?
"The Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series provided a great platform to bring the Corsa Car Care products to, and with the exposure they received in the package, everyone achieved their goals. It is great to know that we at Starworks Motorsport have been able to be successful on the business/marketing end as well".
What is your plan for 2011?
"To enjoy race wins in the #8 Starworks car with Ryan as a teammate".
What are you going to do until Daytona?
"After a little bit of rest and recovery after a long season, the focus will quickly shift to the 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Our first series test for the season happens mid-October, so that will come soon enough. We will also be getting out for some private testing to run a few times at different tracks to get ready as well as have a few people do some guest drives. There will be a good amount of training to get ready for the most grueling race of the season and be in top form, ready to have a great 2011".
