DIAZ QUALIFIES FOURTH TO LEAD LEXUS IN SONOMA QUALIFYING
SONOMA, Calif. (August 25, 2006) -- Luis Diaz qualified fourth in his #01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley as the highest qualifying Lexus-powered car for Saturday's Rolex Series 250 at Infineon Raceway.
Despite the strong effort, Diaz was somewhat disappointed with the qualifying session.
"I think today was frustrating for me because I wasn't able to get a good lap in practice due to traffic," said Diaz, who will team with Scott Pruett on Saturday. "I knew I could get a good lap in, but I started thinking about it, and had to just put one together. The car has definitely improved from the morning session for sure. Although we were fourth today, more importantly I think we have a very strong race car for tomorrow. I hope we can keep the championship fight alive,"
Brian Frisselle qualified 16th, while Mark Patterson was 20th for Michael Shank Racing. Frisselle is making this debut for the team alongside Mike Borkowski in the #6 Playboy Racing/Mears Lexus-Riley. Patterson will be joined by long-time teammate Oswaldo Negri in the #60 Flight Options Lexus-Riley on Saturday.
"That was Mark's (Patterson) best lap of the weekend, and he showed at the Glen that he can really move up well once the race starts," said team owner Mike Shank. "We are a little disappointed with the results in qualifying for the Playboy Racing car because we just went the wrong way with the set-up. Brian did a good job, but the result doesn't really show what he can do. But we know what we need to do to move up, and plan on doing exactly that tomorrow."
Saturday's Rolex Sports Car Series race at Infineon will be televised by SPEED on a one-day tape delay basis. The race will air Sunday at 3 p.m. EDT.
