Brix Qualifies 18th in Kodak Car For Saturday's Sonoma 250 at Infineon Raceway
SONOMA, Calif., Aug. 25 - Talladega Nights' Ricky Bobby, who looked a lot like Harrison Brix of San Jose, Calif., qualified 18th at Infineon Raceway Friday afternoon for Saturday's Sonoma 250 Rolex Series race.
Brix's fastest lap in the qualifying session for the 2.26-mile, 12-turn road course was a 1:30.706 for an average speed of 100.015 miles per hour. He was behind the wheel of the Feeds the Need/Doran Racing DORAN JE4 Ford No. 77 that carries the colors of the Kodak EasyShare System, Amp'd Mobile and SIRIUS. He'll share the car with Michel Jourdain Jr. of Mexico City, Mexico in tomorrow's race, which will be broadcast on SPEED at 3 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, Aug. 27.
Jan Magnussen got the pole in the SunTrust No. 10 with a 1:28.234 (102.818 mph).
The team is working very hard on the car's set-up, and its car is getting better and better. Brix's best lap was his tenth and final one in the 15-minute qualifying session and the fastest the car ran here in practice today or yesterday.
"We're able to run with the front runners on long runs, but we haven't figured out the magic we need to run one fast, screaming lap," Brix said after qualifications.
"The track was slippery, but I think that was due to a combination of the different compounds of tires that were used here today and the sun," he added. "It's a challenging track, but in a good way. When you have a good-working car it's a lot of fun. If the car isn't working well it makes for a long and treacherous day. We'll hope for the first one tomorrow!"
Both Brix and Jourdain are making their first starts at this particular track.
"It's taking some time for me to learn the track, but I'm very happy to be here," Jourdain said. "It's a little like Laguna. I've never been on a track with quite so many elevation changes, but I like it; it's fun!"
