Pruett Lands Lucky Starting Spot for Daytona IROC Round One in Daytona

INDIANAPOLIS (February 17, 2005) -- Two-time Crown Royal IROC Series racewinner Scott Pruett of CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates returns to Daytona International Speedway after piloting his no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley Daytona Prototype to a seventh-place result at the 43rd Rolex 24 At Daytona earlier this month. Pruett, who won the 1991 IROC race at Daytona, drew the seventh starting position for the 12-car Friday night IROC fight, and fittingly enough, will run in the gold 500hp equally-prepared machine boasting no.01 on the doors.

But Pruett won't be the only driver worthy of the distinguished door-side moniker, as the California native enters the IROC fray after an eight-year hiatus, gunning against 11 others representing the top contenders from the sports car, open wheel, stock car and sprint car ranks.

"Going into this, it's just an honor for me to be recognized and have the chance to represent Chip Ganassi Racing and the Rolex Series," said Pruett, who received an eighth IROC nod after his 2004 Rolex Sports Car Series title run which collected 11 team poles and four wins. "The race is going to be a huge challenge. You have top guys from NASCAR like Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch that do this every weekend. So the road racers will have a lot to handle, and we'll all have to work together I'm sure. Max [Papis] and I and the others have our work cut out for us, but I'm very excited and can't wait to get at it."

Tune in Friday night, February 18th at 6:00 pm ET (LIVE, SPEED Channel) to watch defending Rolex Sports Car Series Champion Scott Pruett vie for his third career IROC win in Round 1 of 4 in the Crown Royal IROC Series at Daytona.

LET THE RECORD SHOW...

Scott Pruett is no stranger to the Crown Royal IROC Series, with 28 career appearances under his belt (1987-'96) and having represented the likes of IMSA, SCCA and CART. He has one pole at Talladega (1992), eight top-three finishes, 15 top-fives, four front-row starts and 51 laps led. His average IROC starting and finishing position is sixth, and he's collected 305 total points and earned $347,600 in prize money.
