Watkins Glen home race for Villaconn.
Huntingdon Valley, PA June 13, 2002, The historic Watkins Glen circuit in upstate New York is a motorsports enthusiasts dream. Steeped in tradition, it is a place that can truly claim to have helped light the sportscar racing flame here in the United States. It is the spiritual home for many racers. And for Villaconn Motorsports, it is home field advantage.
When the Grand Am Cup arrives for the June 21-23, 2002 event, the driver championship points leaders in Sport Touring I Class will be looking to extend their hold on the season long championship. Driving pair Bransen Patch and Don Salama currently tie for first after three rounds of the series. Villaconn teammates Beau Buisson and Ken Dobson, however, are only one point behind and would love to take the lead on the challenging New York track.
Making his return to the cockpit will be Matt Connolly. Connolly, a previous winner for Villaconn, is looking forward to a strong run in the team's number 38 BMW. A host of improvements should provide a strong mount for Villaconn's third entry. Connolly will pair with Brookline, Massachusetts racer Neal Heffron.
"I am very proud of the strong start our guys have made to the season" comments team owner Al Villamil. "They've done a great job in the driver's championship and now I want to see us move up to the top rung in team points as well. Our guys back at the shop here in the paddock deserve to be up there - they work so hard." Villaconn Motorsports is supported by partners Primerica, HMS Motorsports, BL Patch & Associates and ELI.com. Based in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, the team is currently in their third season of sportscar racing with automotive manufacturer BMW.
