ROUSH, JOHNSON TO PILOT NO. 61 ROUSH/VALVOLINE MUSTANG AT WATKINS GLEN
LIVONIA, Mich. (June 3, 2009) -- The No. 61 ROUSH/Valvoline Mustang will have a new co-driver this weekend at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. Jack Roush will be paired with Billy Johnson for the first time in his career. To get additional driver feedback on the Horsepower Ranch team car, Johnson is stepping in for Hugh Plumb to give another perspective on the setup.
"We had always planned on using several co-drivers this season and Hugh did a great job in helping us get our new program up to speed quickly with the brand-new car," said Roush. "He was a great instructor to me, and very good at helping us get a setup on our new Ford FR500C Mustang. Unfortunately, due to mechanical issues, some of our finishes this season haven't matched the speed of the car we had in practice and qualifying. We are grateful for his help and look forward to Billy joining the team at Watkins Glen."
Johnson is an accomplished KONI Sports Car Challenge racer and won the second event on the 2009 schedule at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the Grand Sport (GS) division. In addition to his racing activities, he is a fulltime student working on his Marketing Degree at Cal State University, Fullerton in California.
The No. 61 ROUSH/Valvoline Mustang is currently tied for third in the season KONI Challenge point standings. The team has season-best finish of second which came at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway back in January.
The No. 61 Ford Mustang, based out of the Horsepower Ranch shop in Mooresville, N.C., carries sponsorship from ROUSH Performance, Valvoline and MossMuscle.com.
