Watkins Glen, NY. (June 19, 2002) When the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series travels to Watkins Glen this week-end, it will offer race fans and car enthusiasts a little of everything. Whether a fan of high horsepower Corvettes or sporty new 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, Saturday's Grand-Am Cup twin 250's will provide exciting racing action for everyone.
Hyundai Motorsports announced today two cars would participate in this upcoming event. For this fourth round of the season, Peter MacLeod will team-up with Wade Gaughran and Mark Craig will team-up with Steve Gorriaran, in the team's quest for victory.
Fans of the latest imports will not want to miss the tight racing in the Sport Touring I and Sport Touring II classes, which feature all of the leading sport compact manufacturers. At least 20 of the more than 50 cars on track will be battling it out for the Sports Touring I title.
"Watkins Glen is a fast & smooth track with interesting sweeping corners, the Hyundai Tiburons will benefit from this type of track," said team manager Ron Matthews. "We got a lot of valuable experience and information from our first three races of the season, for the last two months, we've totally reengineered some of the components and corrected the problems we found with the car. We're confident the Hyundai Motorsports' team is ready to tear up the race track in Watkins Glen."
