Hyundai Motorsports first in practice.

Alton, Virginia - Grand-Am Cup held two 45-minutes practice sessions this afternoon at Virginia International Raceway, in preparation of the 3-hour event that will be raced tomorrow.

A total of 31 ST class entries took the track for today's practice. In the morning practice (held in the rain), Hyundai Motorsports' car got the fastest lap in its class with car #14 of Wade Gaughran & Peter MacLeod, recording a 2:29:630. Teammates Mark Craig and Jacques Guenette scored the 5th fastest lap with a 2:30:593.

In the second practice, Gaughran/MacLeod recorded the 8th best lap time with a 2:15:503 and Craig/Guenette took the 10th spot with a 2:16:059.

"Virginia International Raceway is probably the toughest track in the Grand-Am calendar for our Hyundai Tiburon race cars. It is a tight & twisty course, " explained Team Manager Ron Matthews. "We have brought a lot of changes to the cars. The cars have much stiffer suspensions, making it easier to handle. "

Mark Craig commented: "The car definitely feels better. I think we have a pretty good setting in wet conditions. As for dry conditions, we just need to fine tune the car and our driving style and we'll be right in front," he concluded.

The teams will qualify Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The Grand-Am Cup three-hour race will begin at 1:45 p.m. later in the day.
