TURNER RACE TEAM HOPING TO WIN MANFACTURERS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR BMW
VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, Alton, VA, USA - With two Championships on the line, Turner Motorsport lands in southern Virginia this weekend for the 2009 season finale of the Koni Challenge Sports Car Series. With stellar results at the last round in Utah, BMW and Turner Motorsport hold the lead in the Manufacturer's Championship standings by two points over Ford while two of Turner Motosport's pilots, Matt Bell and Chris Gleason, sit within striking distance of the Driver's Championship in the Koni GS class. This weekend's Koni Challenge race will be a combined four hour event on Sunday for both classes.
Both Turner Motorsport M3s finshed on the podium in the GS class two weeks ago at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. The Turner Motorsport team has been the driving force in BMW's efforts to win the Manufacturer's Championship this year. The #96 M3 and the #97 M3 have earned eight of the nine results for BMW, including three wins and nine podiums. The #96 Turner Motorsport/Motul Lubricants M3 has a firm hold on third place in the Team Championship and still with a shot at the top prize. The sister #97 Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs M3 in only ten points behind in fourth place overall.
For this weekend's final round at Virginia International Raceway, Turner Motorsport returns to a venue that has been kind to the team in the past. The 2006 and 2007 ST Driver's Championships and the 2006 GS title were cinched at VIR for Turner Motorsport. The usually strong driver lineup returns with Bill Auberlen teaming up with Matt Bell in the #96 StopTech Brakes M3. Joey Hand and Chris Gleason take the wheel of the #97 Borla Exhaust M3. In the ST class, Paul Dalla Lana and Will Turner team up in the #95 Pagid Brakes 328i.
The Koni Challenge Sports Car Series is the headlining event at VIR this weekend. Friday is a free practice day. Practice is on Saturday morning with Qualifying in the afternoon. Sunday will open practice in the morning with an open paddock, pit stop demonstrations, and other fan activities throughout the day. The four hour race begins at twelve noon. Turner Motorsport customers and fans are encouraged to attend and visit the team's paddock to meet the drivers and crew.
