Spirit of Daytona GTO turns a Top-10

Marc-Antoine Camirand, 2005 Spirit of Daytona teammate, turned the 9th fastest lap time out of 45 viable competitors during the last practice session for Grand Am Cup in the No. 10 Spirit of Daytona GTO. The team is campaigning two Pontiac GTOs in the Grand Am Cup 200 at VIR this race weekend. Camirand will team up with Doug Goad in the No.10 Rockland Standard Gear/ Daytona Mitsubishi Diamond Suzuki GTO. Spirit of Daytona's team car, the No. 9 GTO, will be driven by Mike Weinberg and Craig Conway. Originally the team was only going to race one of the GTOs at VIR, but both cars performed so well during the test days that they decided there would be a better opportunity for a podium finish if both cars raced.

Doug Goad said, "We weren't sure which car we would be racing before this weekend, but after we saw the way the cars took to the track it would have been a waste not to enter both cars on Saturday." Todd Flis, GTO team manager said, "The only way we can demonstrate how great these cars are is if they compete. They won't help us out if the stay in the garage. We have put considerable amount of development into the GTOs and learned a lot about them during the past two days of testing. We want to show that these cars are capable of great finishes."

Weinberg and Conway will be teaming up in the No. 9 GTO for a chance to see how fast they can push the GTO. Weinberg, who was behind the No. 10 GTO during the Grand Am Cup 200 in Daytona said, " These are great cars, it's just up to the drivers to push them to success." Co-driver, Conway said, "Racing on this track is tricky if you catch a guy at the wrong place, you just have to wait behind the car, be patient and then pass. This track is really challenging, I wish I had more time here but for now I am just trying to learn as much as I can."
