FINLAY MOTORSPORTS ANNOUNCES DRIVER LINE-UP FOR SEASON ENDING GRAND AM CUP 6-HOUR EVENT
MOORESVILLE, NC -- (October 5, 2006) -- Finlay Motorsports announced today the team's driver line-up for this weekend's Grand Am Cup 6-Hour race at Virginia International Raceway. Rob Finlay and Michael McDowell, drivers of the the No.15 Ford Mustang, will be joined by Rolex Series standouts Memo Gidley and Guy Cosmo for Saturday afternoon's running of the Wheel Enhancement GS Enduro presented by EMC Mechanical.
McDowell and Finlay currently occupy the ninth position with an impressive four top-5 results, including a race win at Barber Motorsports Park and two additional podiums at Daytona International Speedway and Trois Rivieres.
"I'm really looking forward to getting behind the wheel again," said Rob Finlay. "We tested at VIR a few weeks ago but haven't raced since Utah in mid September. I think we've put together a strong driver line-up and can't wait for the 6-hour on Saturday."
Saturday's endurance race will mark the second visit by the Grand Am Cup series this season and the first Grand Am Cup start of the season for Memo Gidley. Gidley who normally competes in the Grand American Rolex Series was scheduled to jump behind the wheel of the team's Ford Mustang this afternoon participating in the series open test but flu like symptoms will keep the likeable driver out of the seat until tomorrow.
"I had a great year with Finlay Motorsports in the No. 19 Daytona Prototype machine. We had a great deal of success with the Ford motor and I'm excited to be given this opportunity to finish off the season by racing the Ford Mustang."
Gidley's Rolex Series teammate, Michael McDowell, will be joining the Mooresville, NC -- based team on Saturday for the Grand Am Cup season finale.
McDowell who is scheduled to compete in Friday's ARCA Series event will take the checkered flag in Talladega and make his way to Virginia. "I'm really excited about VIR," said Michael McDowell. "We have always had a great car there and the #15 Ford Mustang has been really competitive."
"It has been an awesome year running with Rob; he has really stepped up his game. It would be great to finish the season off in style and with the ringers we're bringing in for the 6-hour we should be a tough package to beat."
Guy Cosmo will round out Finlay Motorsports driver line-up. Cosmo has run with the team in both the No. 5 and the No. 19 Daytona Prototype machines this season and looks forward to helping the team out once again on the 3.27 mile, 17-turn Virginia International Raceway circuit.
"I'm looking forward to running with Finlay Motorsports again this weekend," said Guy Cosmo. "We've had a great year and I can't wait to drive with Rob (Finlay), Michael (McDowell) and Memo (Gidley) in the No.15 Ford Mustang."
Practice officially begins on Friday morning with qualifying taking place on Saturday. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 3:00 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon and live timing and scoring can be viewed on Grand American's website, www.grandamerican.com
