Huntingdon Valley, PA, Sept. 07, 2001: Every new race season starts with great expectations. Hard work along the way hopefully leads to just reward in the end. At the world famous Daytona International Speedway on September 15th, Al Villamil and the members of the Villaconn Motorsports family hope to be celebrating their first ever Grand-Am Cup ST Team Championship by welcoming a new team member - another result of nine months labor. Al and Laura won't be getting any additional sleep once the season is over. The happy couple is expecting their first child - possibly on the same weekend their squad could snag the ST Team Championship for BMW.
It has been a long and difficult season for everyone in the Villaconn camp. At times running three Z3 Coupes but always entertaining scores of guests back in the Grand-Am Cup paddock. The plan has always been to grow a professional organization while competing at the front of the field. With two race wins already in the bag and many laps led, 2001 has been a season everyone on the Al Villamil/Matt Connolly led team can be proud of. But the season isn't over just yet.
With the longest race of the season scheduled for next week, Ricky Marrero and Gerald McNeely have been hard at work preparing the team's BMWs for battle. Leading the charge with be a driver squad nine members strong. Team regulars Jeff Trask, Jonathan Bomarito, Gregory White, Bransen Patch, Matt Connolly and Al Villamil will be joined by Larry Harvey, Speedvision Touring Car racer Hugh Plumb and multiple Skip Barber Southern Series Champion Craig Duerson.
