Championship Target for Turner Motorsport in 2011 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge
Top squad retains driver line up for 2011
Daytona Beach, FL- 6 January 2010-- For an organization like Turner Motorsport, close just isn't good enough.
So after the 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season saw the squad come up just shy of racking up another team championship, the organization has redoubled efforts in preparation for adding to the already-crowded trophy collection at the Turner Motorsport BMW tuning shop in Amesbury, Massachusetts.
Step one in that process for team owner Will Turner was to make sure he had the right driver line-up in place. Fortunately for Turner, he knew he didn't have to go far.
Turner Motorsport will stage a two-pronged attack on the 2011 Grand Sports (GS) Championship as Bill Auberlen, who has more professional race starts in a BMW than any other driver in the world, will look to add new chapters in his successful history with BMW by teaming with Paul Dalla Lana in the No. 96 NorthWest/Turner Motorsport BMW M3.
The famed No. 97 Alvarez & Marsal/Turner Motorsport will once again be piloted by Joey Hand, with up and coming young racer Michael Marsal returning to share the driving duties for his sophomore season of GRAND-AM competition.
With two race wins, seven podiums, and a championship run that fell just six points shy of the goal last year, most teams would be pleased with the results. But veteran racer Turner knows that by keeping the drivers in place and retaining the same technical package on the balanced and potent BMW M3, that 2011 should be even better for the iconic yellow and blue machines.
"Getting this caliber of driver line up back for 2011 was a huge priority for me, and I'm very optimistic about the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season," said Turner, who is also overseeing his organizations return to the Rolex Sports Car Series in 2011. "With the speed, experience, and potential that we have between Paul, Bill, Joey, and Michael, we should be very strong right out of the box at Daytona. Last year was our first full season with the (BMW M3) E92 and we showed we could win with it. Now we are focused on having the kind of consistent results through the season that you need to come out on top at the end of the year. We were close last season, and that stung a little bit no question. But we know we have everything we need with this driver line up to make sure it doesn't happen again!"
The foursome will look to take their first steps towards that goal this weekend as Daytona International Speedway plays host to the "Roar Before The Rolex 24" test.
