Atterbury and Anthony Jr. Ready for Three Rivers after Disappointing Outing at NJMP
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (August 12, 2010) - The #6.2 Mitchum Motorsports Camaro returns to the track this weekend for the next round of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at The Grand Prix of Three Rivers in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. The team suffered a nearly devastating fire at NJMP but has made good use of the time off between races to rebuild the Riley Technologies Camaro.
Joey Atterbury was behind the wheel when the Camaro caught fire midway through the race in New Jersey. Atterbury's quick thinking and fast reactions saved the car from total destruction by activating the fire suppression system after he exited safely.
The team spent the last several weeks working to repair the Camaro and get it race ready again. Team principle Chris Mitchum had only praise for the crew as they performed the monumental task of tearing down, cleaning and rebuilding the car. "The entire team worked so hard these last several weeks, above and beyond what we normally ask of them" said Mitchum. "Thanks to their tireless efforts and attention to detail, I am confident that the car is the best it has been all season. You never expect this type of thing but when it happens you get a chance to find out what you are really made of, and I must say, I am impressed with Joey and the team. We are all excited to get Ted (Anthony, Jr) behind the wheel of the Camaro during a race. Joey and Ted are great teammates who really complement each other, so I am expecting another solid outing this weekend."
Mitchum Motorsports has been steadily driving to the front of the field all season long, improving the performance of the car each round, all while continuing to develop its drivers. "Our program is focused on developing drivers and it has been a pleasure to watch Joey really step up his game this season. Ted has already proven to be a great addition to the team by providing great feedback to our engineer and working with Joey to get the most out of the car" noted Mitchum. "With Joey and Ted sharing the driving for the rest of the season we'll continue to make progress on the car and work to get to the front of the field."
With just two races remaining in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season, Mitchum Motorsports is aiming for solid finishes to round out a great season in which the team returned to GRAND-AM competition.
