MATTIOLI COUSIN'S SCORE TOP TEN IN CANADIAN KONI GRAND AM
Long Pond, PA (August 18, 2009): The late Walter Payton said that "Victory comes to the most persevering". Although Saturday's KONI Grand AM race at Trois-Rivieres did not include a trip to victory lane for team JBS Motorsports, rookie teammates Chase Mattioli and cousin, Nick Igdalsky, were able to make history in their international debut by posting their first ever top ten finish in the August 16th, Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres, in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.
The boys placed 9th in round 10 of the KONI Grand AM. After beginning the race in the 14th place, Chase Mattioli was able to methodically maneuver his way through the field and into 5th place before pitting for a driver change. Unfortunately, due to clutch issues, the team was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop; however, Nick continued to push the rest of the field and ended up securing a top ten finish for the team. As the only true rookie tandem competing in this years KONI Grand AM GS circuit, 19-year old Chase Mattioli, and cousin, Nick Igdalsky, have experienced all of the growing pains associated with being a rookie driver in a new circuit. However, their top ten finish in round 10 of the KONI Grand Am challenge at Trois-Rivieres, signifies that the duo is coming into their own.
"It felt fantastic to get our first top 10 finish, especially in front of the Canadian fans," Chase commented after the race. "The JBS crew put us in a great position by providing us with a great car, which was essential to us doing so well at such a difficult track," Chase added. "It's been a long season, but runs like this prove that we, as drivers, and the #47 team itself has come a long way," Chase concluded.
When asked about the team making their international debut, Nick Igdalsky, co-driver of the Pocono Raceway sponsored #47 JBS Mustang, said that "The town of Trois-Rivieres really loves racing. We had a fantastic time exploring the area. It was truly an honor to compete on this circuit".
Following the race at Trois-Rivieres, Chase will be returning to racing on the oval track competing in an ARCA RE/MAX race at Chicagoland, IL (August 29th).
