Best qualifying to date for No. 12 Kia Koup machine as Hopwood and Burrows target a return to podium success north of the border
Trois Rivieres, Que (13 August 2010)--Trevor Hopwood scored the best qualifying result to date with the No. 12 Kia Motors/Infinity Audio Kia Forte Koup for Kinetic Motorsports as he motored to eighth on the grid for Saturday morning's Grand Prix du Trois Rivieres.
Hopwoods fast time of 1:15.546 seconds on the 1.51-mile circuit showed the burgeoning strength of the Kia Motorsport program. The Kinetic Motorsports effort was also once again evenly matched as Hopwood's best time was just .008 of a second away from that of teammate Nic Jonson.
"This is a very condensed weekend, but I was really happy with the progress we made in practice with the Koup," said Hopwood, who will be joined by a group of friends and family on race day. "We made one change too far for qualifying and I think we'll go back a little bit to be good on the long run in the race tomorrow. I was hoping for just a little bit more out of that time today. But considering that I got blocked going into the arch, I have to be happy with what we got and it's great for the team to have both cars well into the top ten. Hopefully we can just have a smart race tomorrow and bring Kia some good points for the Manufacturers Championship."
Hopwood will open the two-hour race before turning the machine over to fellow former champion Adam Burrows to run to the checkered flag. The duo did exactly that in 2008 with a big win, and will look to repeat the feat on Saturday.
