Burrows and Hopwood Look to Defend Race Victory at Trois Rivieres
Super-sprint event on Saturday as duo look for podium return north of the border
Trois Rivieres, Que (13 August 2009)--Trevor Hopwood and Adam Burrows will return to race action this Saturday as the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge stages round 9 of the 2009 season at the historic Grand Prix du Trois Rivieres in Quebec. The race weekend marks the 40th edition of the temporary street circuit event, which Hopwood and Burrows won by a convincing margin in 2008.
The duo have been hunting a debut podium for their No. 198 RSR Motorsports -prepared Fischer Skis MINI Cooper, with a strong run at Watkins Glen producing their best result of the season to date with a fifth place finish. Saturday's race is the shortest of the season at ninety-minutes, something that the two will look to take advantage of at the drop of the green flag.
"Adam and I have been on the podium every year that we've raced at Trois Rivieres, and we'd really like to keep that streak going this weekend," said the newly-nuptialed Hopwood, who qualified on the front row for the event in 2008. "Getting this MINI up on the podium for RSR Motorsports has been a big target for us all year long, and it'd be great to do that this weekend to follow up on our win from last year there. My new bride and a lot of our family will be up there with us this weekend to cheer us on so hopefully we can make the trip worthwhile for them with a good finish."
The 10-turn, 1.52-mile temporary street circuit is a fan and driver favorite as the challenge of racing between the concrete walls gives way to the passionate support from the local fans, who should be out in force once again this weekend.
"Winning at Trois Rivieres last year was a big highlight for me as a driver, conserving the car as much as we did and still grow our lead was really satisfying," said Burrows. "This is a track where you have to be mindful of your brakes, but that's been a strong point for the MINI this year so we will look to put that to our advantage. The fans there are pretty amazing and coming back as the defending winners is also a great feeling. It's going to be a very fast race once again and hopefully our strategy pays off so we can do another trip around the track on the trailer to the podium once again!"
