Tagliani to the fore in Trois Rivieres
Trois Rivieres, Quebec (5 August 2006)--Well, that didn't take long!
Alex Tagliani has already made a fast impression in his Grand-Am Cup Series debut, qualifying the No. 4 Blackforest Motorsports Group USG Sheetrock/Ramset Tools Mustang FR500C on the front row for Sunday's Grand Prix du Trois Rivieres.
Tagliani will take the green flag in the two-hour event before turning the car over to fellow Quebec native Valerie Limoges to take to the finish in the Ameublement Tanguay/Rythem FM Radio-supported entry.
"Of course I was hoping to be on the pole, but we had a little problem with a competitor brake-checking me late the session so I wasn't able to improve," said Tagliani. "The Mustang is really good, but I think we will have to be careful to make sure we conserve the brakes for later in the race. I'm excited to put a Ford on the front row, and I want to thank Blackforest for preparing such a great car."
The Cup Series was once again closely matched on the 1.52-mile infield road course, with the first twelve cars in the thirty-one car field qualifying within one second of the pole-winning time.
"It's great that everyone is this close and I think it's going to make for a great race tomorrow," said Limoges. "I have started all the races so far this season, and I am looking forward to getting to finish one this weekend. Alex did a great job in qualifying, and we're both excited about racing here at Trois Rivieres."
With all three team Mustang FR500C entries qualifying in the top ten (2nd, 4th, 8th), the Trois Rivieres event could prove to be a season highlight for Blackforest Motorsports Group.
