Watkins Glen, N.Y. (May 19, 2001) - The Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series held qualifying for its three-hour race at Watkins Glen International today, with Sylvain Tremblay (Pompano Beach, Fla.) capturing the pole in the Speedsource #65 Porsche 911 Supercup. Tremblay clocked a 2:03.383 in his second lap of qualifying at 99.203 mph. Also starting on the front row will be John Heinricy (Holly, Mich.) in the Phoenix American Motorsports #35 Corvette. Both cars will vie for not only the overall victory, but also the SGS-class victory on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Stu Haynor (Yorba Linda, Calif.) will start fourth row as the top GS-class competitor. Haynor recorded a 2:10.680 lap at 93.664 mph in the Phoenix American Motorsports #37 Pontiac Firebird. The #72 Team Spartanburg Motorsports BMW Z3 Coupes had the fastest time in the ST class, with Jeff Altenburg piloting it to a 2:14.847 lap.

The Honda of America Racing Team's #69 Honda Civic Si had the fastest lap by a C2K car. Pete Halsmer (Bloomfield, Mich.) drove the Honda to a 2:17.234 lap to lead the class.

The Grand-Am Cup three-hour race at Watkins Glen International will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
