Dumoulin Joins Team Lexus -- Local racer Jean-Francois Dumoulin will pilot one of two Team Lexus IS 300s this weekend at the Grand-Am Cup event in his hometown of Trois-Rivières. Dumoulin, 25, previously raced in the Grand-Am Cup Grand Sport (GS) class in 2000 and 2001, earning four victories. A former member of the famed Player's Driver Development Program, Dumoulin raced in select Toyota Atlantic events in 1998-99, with a career best seventh-place finish at the 1999 Vancouver Molson Indy event. He follows Jason Potter as the second young driver to join the new Lexus IS 300 program in 2001.
Another Canadian Pole? -- The Lexus IS 300 returns to Canada, site of its first-ever pole at Mosport in June. The compact sports sedan, in its first race season, earned Lexus first-ever motorsports victory at Virginia International Raceway on June 30. Owner/driver Chuck Goldsborough's victory with Terry Borcheller at V.I.R. came in the compact sports sedan's fifth-ever race. Team Lexus will field Sports Touring (ST) class points leader Potter, Goldsborough (5th overall), Dumoulin, and either Scooter Gabel or Darrin Law in the No. 0 and No. 2 Lexus IS 300s. Potter's third-place finish in the ST class at Road America in July vaulted him back into the points lead with two races remaining in 2001. The Lexus IS 300's steady progression from its debut race at Phoenix in April included a lead in its third race at Mid-Ohio and the pole position at Mosport in June.
Jean-Francois Dumoulin -- "I've know Chuck Goldsborough over the last couple of years, and I had a good feeling about joining Team Lexus when he recently approached me about racing at Trois-Rivières. I'm very impressed with the IS 300. For a brand new car, it's been competitive right away. I think it's in a position to win more races the rest of the season. I'm also looking forward to racing in my hometown. I know the track very well, having raced there twice in a Toyota Atlantic car. I think my experience will help the team this weekend. There's nothing more exciting than racing in your hometown, and these fans are smart race fans who love the sport."
Chuck Goldsborough -- "I expect us to have a really good weekend. The car is ready for more poles and podiums, and J.F. [Jean-Francois] is going to be a great addition to Team Lexus. His experience at Trois-Rivières, coupled with the great balance and braking of the IS, should be a good mix for this track."
