Daytona Beach, FL (14 July 2006)--Champ Car World Series driver and Quebec native Alex Tagliani will make his Grand-Am Cup Series debut this August, co-driving the Blackforest Motorsports Group No. 4 USG Sheetrock/Ramset Tools Mustang FR500C in the Grand-Am Cup Series with Valerie Limoges in the 37th running of the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres on the weekend of August 4-6.
The effort will also be supported by Ameublement Tanguay, a Quebec-based furniture store, as well as Rythem FM Radio.
Limoges and Tagliani have known each other for several years, as Tagliani's father helped prepare Limoges' karts during her highly successful Canadian karting days, and the two have remained friends ever since.
Tagliani has a long history of success at the 1.5-mile temporary street circuit, and is relishing the chance to race once again in front of a highly receptive crowd.
"Trois Rivieres has been a great place for me in my career," said Tagliani. "I have great memories from there going back to racing in Formula Ford, because I have won so much there and the fans are really supportive. I have watched a lot of the (Grand-Am) Cup races, and it is a very competitive series, and Grand Am obviously works to keep it that way."
Limoges took four karting championships in F100 and F125 competition before moving up to formula cars. Limoges raced in the 2005 Hankook Touring Car Series before signing with Tom Nastasi to race in the Grand-Am Cup Series to prepare for a move up to the Rolex Sports Car Series. Limoges is looking forward to co-driving with Tagliani and moving up in the championship standings.
"The first thing is that we have to finish the race because we have to make up ground in the championship," said LImoges. "It is going to be great to race where I at least have a little bit of experience on the track, and the crowd at this race is always very enthusiastic. Alex and I have known each other for a long time, and we are both from Quebec, so it is going to be really exciting to be racing with him at this track."
Tagliani believes that the Blackforest entry has a good opportunity for success on the tight street circuit, and is glad to be once again campaigning with the Blue Oval.
"The team is quite good, and hopefully we can continue to develop the Mustang and that I can help a little bit with that," said Tagliani. "I am glad to be racing a Mustang because I have only race and driven Fords since 2000, so it was important for me to keep that streak going."
Tagliani is the second Champ Car driver to race in the Cup Series in 2006, as Sebastian Bourdais teamed with his father Patrick in the season-opening Daytona round.
