Rum Bum Racing Revving up at Roar Before 24; Matt Plumb and Gian Bacardi Take To Daytona's High Banks in Testing
(Daytona Beach, FL) 7 January 2010-- Rum Bum Racing will look to get the 2010 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC) season off to a fast start this weekend as the team takes on three days of testing at the famed Daytona International Speedway for the traditional "Roar Before the 24" test days.
The team has already put some racing miles on the newly-acquired E92 BMW M3 machine in preparation for the full-season assault with drivers Gian Bacardi and Matt Plumb. The test will give Rum Bum Racing the opportunity to keep the learning curve going up on the high banks of Daytona's 3.56-mile road course, which will be the site for the team's debut CTSCC race appearance in the Fresh From Florida 200 in just three weeks time.
The Daytona track, which features nearly everything a driver can imagine, from slow hairpin corners to high-speed kinks, is one that both Rum Bum Racing pilots have experience on.
Plumb, who bolted to the front of the pack in his very first Daytona Prototype start in the 2008 running of the Rolex 24, will continue to coach Bacardi as the youngster returns to the track looking to put the experience he gained in PBOC competition to good use in his return to the oval-based facility.
The 2010 season will see Bacardi look to compete for not only race podiums and championship standings, but the young college student will also be part of the 2010 class of "MESCO Rookie Of The Year" contenders.
"I'm excited," enthused Bacardi about making his first official Grand-Am appearance. "I know that it is just a test and we've got a lot of things to work through this weekend, but I think it's going to be a good way to get ready for the race. All of these competitors will be new for me, and I have a lot to learn about how the guys race out there, so I am just going to see how much I can learn this weekend to be able to put it to use at the end of the month. This track is really amazing, driving the M3 up on the banks is a thrill, and I'm eager to do it in the race!"
The Roar Before the 24 will also mark the first time back in the Grand-Am paddock since last season's close for Rum Bum Racing's ace crew chief, Joe Varde, who will look to continue his championship-winning ways as the team takes the opportunity to develop from a new start up to an established organization using his know how and experience.
The test is also something that Team Manager and co-driver Plumb has been looking forward to, as it will provide three days of vital seat time and team development for the quickly-accelerating Rum Bum Racing to get the 2010 season started on the right foot.
"I know that everyone on the team is excited for this test because we've been working really hard to get to this point," said Plumb. "Joe (Varde) has done an incredible job to start with basically nothing, and in just two months time having everything ready to go for this test. We have realistic expectations for the season, but we want to get things started with a good result at Daytona, and these three days are going to be key to accomplishing that. As a race driver, getting down to Florida in the winter is the perfect way to get warmed up for the season, so everyone is really looking forward to this test."
The Roar Before the 24 will open with practice on Friday, with running continuing through until Sunday afternoon.
