Mark Plummer turned the fastest lap Thursday in qualifying for the Grand-Am Cup 200 at Daytona International Speedway, navigating the 14-turn, 3.56- mile road course in 2:01.224. But his Porsche failed post-qualifying inspection, meaning that Plummer and co-driver Craig Stanton will start 44th. In their place, Ryan Pilla, the second fastest qualifier, will lead the 89-car field to the green flag in the No. 55 Ford Mustang GT that he will share with Joe Foster.

The No. 44 Team Sahlen Porsche 996 of Eric Lux and the No. 90 Automatic Racing BMW M3 of Jeff Segal rounded out the top-three in the GS class.

In the ST class, Hugh Plumb set the fastest time in the No. 27 Bill Fenton Motorsports Acura RSX-S. Eric Curran, driving the No. 01 Georgian Bay Chevrolet Cobalt, and Will Turner, in the No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i, qualified second and third, respectively.

The No. 75 Kensai Racing Acura RSX-S and the No. 74 Thornley Racing Acura TSX actually ran the fastest laps in qualifying but those cars failed post- qualifying inspection.

The Grand-Am Cup 200 will start Friday, January 27, 2006 at 2:15 p.m.
