Phoenix, AZ -- Taking their first win as co-drivers, Will Nonnamaker and Howie Liebengood took victory at Phoenix International Raceway in the #43 King Motorsports / Pennzoil Acura Integra LS. Phoenix marked the third race of the season for the Grand Am Cup and for Will and Howie it marked their third consecutive podium of the season.
The race started out with the top four Sports Touring II cars glued nose to tail. HRPWorld.com had two representatives in that lead group as Wayne Nonnamaker and Howie Liebengood started the #42 and #43 Integras respectively. The four cars never drifted more than five seconds apart for the first hour of the race. Speed TV was on hand to film the race with the one hour telecast airing May 10th at noon.
Midway through the race Liebengood pitted the #43 machine to allow Will Nonnamaker to take over the driving controls.
"Howie drove an excellent race," commented Nonnamaker. "He patiently sat on the lead pack and when the opportunity arose to pass, he moved up positions. The rules in this class are very tight and the racing out there was excellent."
As for the #42 Integra, it took home third place with Joe Nonnamaker, Will and Wayne's father, bringing the car home.
"That was a lot of fun," added the elder Nonnamaker. "I have been used to driving the high horsepower Grand Sports cars over the last couple of years, but I had forgotten how much fun these nimble Integras are in the turns."
With the win the HRPWorld.com campaign now sits only four points out of the Championship lead with eight races remaining. The next event for the HRPWorld.com Racing campaign will be held on Sunday May 18th at the brand new Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.
The HRPworld.com - King Motorsports Acuras bid for the 2003 Championship will be supported through partnerships with AEM, American Honda / Acura, Denso Iridium Power, Grill Craft, Hawk Brake, Horizon Audio, Mugen Sport, Pennzoil, TheRaceSite.com, Waikem, Volk Wheels, and ZR Racing Products.
