Tuaty looks to Phoenix for first success in 2002.
Miami, FL. (April 17, 2002) - David Tuaty is heading to Phoenix for the United Auto 200 presented by azcentral.com where he will look to recall his success at Phoenix last year. Tuaty is looking to make up points following a disappointing start in Daytona and a solid result in California.
"We are looking to get much closer to the championship at this race, I had a great result at this race last year and my Acura finished second here...So I think we will have a good result and get back in the hunt." Peruvian native Tuaty said. "Phoenix is a long way from Miami but it is starting to feel like home, I may move here if I win this one." David Added.
Sitting in eleventh place just 20 points out of first, David can make a major move up the Sport Touring I drivers standings. Acura is currently leading the manufacturer points in Sport Touring I, ahead of BMW, Lexus and Porsche.
This will be the first event under the new format where races will be split into two 250- mile races to highlight the Grand Sport and the Sport Touring classes in separate races. "The split format will open the track for us. Sometimes those big cars can slow our corner speeds. We need to keep our cars up in the rev range all the time so I think this will be a real bonus for all of us." Tuaty explained, "The Acura makes exceptional power and is getting it to the ground really well but we have to keep our corner speeds up while the big cars can just point and shoot." Tuaty talked about his expectations, "Braco Racing had fantastic results here last year so we have very high expectations for our race on Friday and back in the title hunt."
