New Spirit of Daytona Driver in No. 10 GTO
New driver, Greg Camp will be added to the Spirit of Daytona GTO line up. Long time sportsman driver, Camp will be joining Mike Weinberg behind the wheel of the Spirit of Daytona/Rockland Standard Gear GTO at Mid-Ohio this weekend. Camp, an avid sportsman driver has been racing for over 12 years. He has accumulated wins in IMSA and raced in the Motorola Cup Series. Camp's last stint behind the wheel was in the Grand Am Cup Mustang Cobra with Frederick Motorsports. Camp has dedicated his life to racing whether he is competing on a road course or teaching other drivers how to tackle a chicane he can truly say he lives for speed.
Camp has never raced a GTO before but has been behind the wheel of sports cars for a while. " I have been in a Mustang, Porsche, and BMW. I am very excited to race for Spirit of Daytona. They are an awesome race team and they are giving me a great opportunity here with the GTO. It won't be hard to drive safe and take care of the car at Mid-Ohio. I am looking forward to placing third or better and spraying champagne everywhere. I raced at Mid-Ohio two years ago and finished 9th overall. It's a challenging and demanding race track and there will be a lot of give and take to survive in the race."
Troy Flis has known Camp for a while and was introduced to him by Spirit of Daytona GTO driver, Mike Weinberg. "We are happy to have Greg in the GTO. He has always supported racing and has spent a lot of time behind the wheel of many different cars," said Flis, team owner/manager.
Camp has known Weinberg for years and will have no trouble driving with his new teammate. "I remember Weinberg from when he was in the Pontiac Firebird. We use to race against each other. I also used to race against the whole Flis family but really the team is great," said Camp.
Spirit of Daytona is also happy to confirm that French Canadian driver Marc-Antoine Camirand will be racing with Craig Conway in the Daytona Mitsubishi/Diamond Suzuki sponsored No. 9 GTO for the remainder of the season. Camirand and Conway will be looking for their first win at the Ohio track.
Spirit of Daytona will be campaigning a fleet of three GTOs in the 2006 Grand-Am Cup Series.
