Fan Activities Abound At New Jersey Motorsports Park's Verizon Wireless 250
Millville, N.J. (April 28, 2009) - Visitors to New Jersey Motorsports Park for next weekend's Verizon Wireless 250 presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 will have more to do than just watch the thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring, KONI Sports Car Challenge and Ford Racing Mustang Challenge. The May 1-3 event will also feature a host of activities that will bring fans up close and personal with the drivers and the cars.
In addition to the open paddock and garage area that is included with every ticket to New Jersey Motorsports Park, a number of fan activities are scheduled throughout the three-day weekend.
On Friday, the drivers of the SPEED World Challenge will sign autographs from 1:30 to 2:30, prior to both the World Challenge GT (for higher horsepower cars like Porsche 911s, Dodge Vipers, and Ford Mustang Cobras) and the World Challenge Touring Car class (including Subaru WRX, BMW 328i, and Acura TSX) qualifying sessions.
In addition to Saturday's Touring Car race (at 10:30), GT class race (12:30 start) and Grand-Am KONI Challenge race (3:00 p.m.), fan activities continue. At 11:00 a.m. in the paddock, a KONI Challenge team will demonstrate a pit stop, complete with driver change, just as they'll do during Saturday afternoon's two-hour, 30-minute race. The entire line-up of Rolex Series stars will sign autographs on the Hangar Deck in the paddock, including David Donohue, Scott Pruett, Andy Lally and Alex Gurney.
Prior to the start of the KONI Challenge race, fans will be invited onto the grid to collect autographs from drivers and mix among the race cars, just minutes before the drop of the green flag.
Sunday is Verizon Wireless 250 race day, featuring Rolex Series stars behind the wheel of thundering Daytona Prototypes and GT machines. At 9:00 a.m., a Rolex Series team will perform a pit stop demonstration followed by an 11:00 a.m. fan Q&A session, allowing fans the opportunity to ask questions of some of their favorite Rolex Series stars.
At noon, fans will again be invited onto the grid to mix and mingle with the drivers and cars of the Rolex Series just before the green flag, before settling in among the seven free grandstands to watch the Verizon Wireless 250.
Tickets are still available for the May 1-3 Verizon Wireless 250 presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 at www.njmp.com. Children 12 and under are admitted free to all events at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
