Strong run for Limoges at Mosport
Valerie Limoges scored the third race finish of her 2007 KONI Challenge season this weekend, taking an eleventh place result with co-driver Travis Walker in the USG Sheetrock/Ramset Tools Ford Mustang FR500C at Mosport International Raceway.
The two-and-a-half-hour event ran at a frantic pace, not slowing for a caution period until the final minutes of the race. But Limoges was up to the task, working up through the order from fifteenth on the grid into the top-five. The KONI event was the first laps in race action at Mosport for Limoges, who had previously tested on the 2.459-mile circuit north of Toronto in a formula car.
After making significant forward progress, Limoges then turned the car over to Walker, who was on target for a strong finish as the green flag laps continued. It was not to be their day for the double-Canadian driver line-up, though, as the No. 4 entry suffered a small off-course run in the closing laps before recovering to finish just outside of the top ten.
"We had a good run going but it just didn't finish up the way we were hoping," said Limoges. "But I am happy with the performance we had today and maybe the result isn't everything we wanted, but it is still a good way for us to build on our points and hopefully we can be even better at Mid-Ohio."
The sister Blackforest entry of Tom Nastasi and David Empringham also delivered a strong performance at Mosport as Nastasi ran in the top two for most of his stint before turning the car over to Empringham, who worked the Mustang to the front once again. The Canadian was hoping to take the battle to eventual race-winner Scott Maxwell, whom he battled for the win in the season-opening race at Daytona, but an untimely yellow flag late in the race disrupted the fuel strategy and kept him from taking to the podium once again.
Limoges will now return Stateside and prepare for the upcoming EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio. The KONI Series GS class will race on Saturday, starting at 2:15 PM EST.
