PETALUMA, Calif.- Fresh off a second-place performance in the second round of the 2008 Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series at Lime Rock Park on Memorial Day weekend, the two-car Porsche effort from TRG heads north of the border to Mosport International Raceway this Sunday in search of its first victory of the season.
TRG will once again field a pair of Porsche 997s as part of the traditional Father's Day Weekend Doubleheader at the famed 2.459-mile permanent road course in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. Sharing the team's No. 39 The DigiTrust Group/Adam's Polishes/Fox River Coffee/Sherab-Khandro.com Porsche 997 will be Duncan Ende and Spencer Pumpelly, while Peter Ludwig and Scott Schroeder are paired in the No. 41 Cohen Financial/Wolf-Tec Inc./WTInc.com/Ludwig-Motorsports/Pillers Porsche 997. Both TRG entries are in the KONI Challenge Grand Sport (GS) class.
After a four-month break between the first two rounds of the 2008 KONI Challenge Series, the 10-race championship now kicks into high gear. This weekend's third round will kick off a stretch of races that will conclude with a champion being crowned in the six-hour season finale at Virginia International Raceway on October 5.
"It's awesome to have the season back in full swing," said TRG team manager Jason Myers. "The entire team, crew and drivers alike, were just itching to get back in competition. The KONI Challenge Series seems to have the most diverse and competitive field right now, especially in GS. We look forward to an incredibly fun and demanding remainder of the 2008 season."
Both of the TRG Porsches head to Mosport inside the top 15 in the team point standings. The No. 41 team-which has featured Schroeder as its full-time driver-is ranked ninth in the championship, while the No. 39 team is 14th thanks to a second-place run at Lime Rock last month.
"Our performance at Lime Rock was outstanding with the 39 car finishing second," Myers said. "Duncan and Spencer drove the wheels off that car, and who knows what would have happened if we would have had just one or two more laps. Duncan has improved dramatically over the 18 months he has been with TRG, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds for these two."
After opening the season at Daytona in January alongside co-driver Andy Lally, Schroeder paired with Ludwig for the first time at Lime Rock, where the duo wound up 16th. They'll be looking for more in their second start together at Mosport.
"Peter and Scott were turning incredibly fast lap times in the 41 car, but were hindered by a broken suspension piece shortly into the race," said Myers. "Scott is a TRG veteran and is improving every single time he gets in the car. Peter is new to the TRG GS effort, but his lap times at Lime Rock show that he has tons of potential and is a viable threat to every other car out there."
