BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada (June 14, 2008) -- Randy and his co-driver Mark White finished a strong but disappointing ninth in class in their #181 APR Motorsport Volkswagen GT in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Street Tuner Series race Saturday at Mosport International Raceway. On Friday, Mark qualified the car in a promising seventh position. From the beginning Mark was able to keep the car in contention, running fast laps, until he was rear-ended and knocked off the road. Mark was able to continue, but with a loose rear bumper. A fast pit stop and driver change allowed the team to pick up two more positions. Randy was able to get up to third when the loose bumper became an issue.
"It was a good race. The team and the car continue to make steady progress. We had a real chance at a podium. I was in a solid third when I was given the mechanical black flag (the Meatball flag) by the officials for the loose bumper. We had to come to the pits to fix it and lost valuable time. Mark and I make a great team. He ran one of the fastest laps of the race and was only two-tenths of a second off my best time. Its frustrating that a little piece of plastic kept us from a podium. Its just one of those racing breaks. The car was better in every way. We are going to win one soon."
"I'd like to thank Bill Baas and Stephen Hooks for getting me on the APR Motorsport team. I would also like to thank my team and my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com for their continued support."
The next KONI Challenge Series race is scheduled for next Sunday, June 22 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio with the ST class only. The next World Challenge GT race will be at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course July 18-20.
