Hyundai Motorsports turn heads in practice; rainy weather cancels Mosport qualifying.
Bowmanville, Ont (September 27th, 2002) ^Ö The remnant of Hurricane Isidore made its way north of the border today, resulting in rainy weather throughout the day at Mosport International Raceway. After two rain-soaked practice sessions, Grand-Am Cup Series officials decided to cancel the late afternoon qualifying sessions due to hazardous track conditions caused by standing water on the course. The starting grid for tomorrow's Sunoco Ultra 94 presents the Mosport Three-Hour will be set based on current team point standings in accordance with the Grand American Road Racing Association rulebook.
The Hyundai Motorsports^Ò car showed their dominance in the rain in the afternoon practice, by finishing first of the entire 29-car field. With two full seconds on the second place, and 3 whole seconds on the fastest GS1 car. An incredible performance from Wade Gaughran and Steven Gorriaran.
Car #6: 3rd (1:58:168)
Car #14: 6th (1:59:088)
Car#14 - 1st (1:56:819)
Car#6 ^Ö 3rd (2:00:205)
"I love Mosport. The track has its own personality, there is really only one slow corner, the rest of the track is actually pretty fast. It is my first time here and I really enjoy the layout/track^Ô said Wade Gaughran.
^ÓThe wet track conditions makes it hard for the drivers. They have low track visibility and almost no traction. We are lucky because most of our drivers like to perform in the rain, and are also very talented and comfortable on a slippery track,^Ô said Ron Matthews, Hyundai Motorsports^Ò team manager.
Earlier this year, team Hyundai Motorsports qualified on pole in Virginia, in the same rainy and wet conditions.
