BOWMANVILLE, Ontario- Automatic Racing finished fifth in the Grand Sports II class of the Grand-Am Cup Series after leading early in the race during the Sunoco 94 Mosport 3 Hour at Mosport International Raceway.

Jep Thornton and David Russell co-drove the Automatic Racing BMW M3. It was their first race in the E46 model of the M3.

Thornton took the class lead at the start of the race and stayed in front of the GSII field until the first caution flag. The caution diminished the distance between the top cars, and shortly after the restart Thornton was passed and fell back to second.

Another caution flag a short while later was a disadvantage for Automatic Racing, who went a lap down to the leaders.

"There were so many cautions and the leaders kept changing," commented Russell. "We lost a lap because of a caution and were out of contention for top three, so we were fighting for fourth."

"I really had a great race," said Thornton. "It was my first pole and my first time leading a professional race. The team did a great job getting our car ready. It was a successful weekend in our first outing with the new car."

Automatic Racing will race next week, September 19-21, at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in round nine of the Grand-Am Cup Series.

Automatic Racing is sponsored by Automatic Commercial Aircraft, LandAir, BBS, Engine Music Studios, Redline Oil and Moton Shocks.
