North Canton, OH -- When the #43 Orison Marketing Planet Earth Motorsports Corvette experienced brake issues at Virginia International Raceway, driver Shane Lewis went for a ride through the wet grass and collided with the wall at the outside of turn one. Although the frame was undamaged on the car, the bodywork damage was too extensive to repair in the one day before the race, and the Corvette was forced to sit out the VIR race.
After the team returned to the shop, an extensive list of parts and repair work was created. After close inspection, it was determined that the team could not repair the Corvette in the five working days before the transporter had to leave for this weekend's race at Mont Tremblant.
"There is extensive body work damage to the Corvette," said Joe Nonnamaker. "The frame was undamaged thankfully, but the body damage was too extensive to repair in the time we had before Mont Tremblant."
The Planet Earth Motorsports campaign is being prepped by the professional race prep shop, Phoenix Promotions. Phoenix Promotions is also responsible for the preparation of the four car fleet of King Motorsports Acura Integras that run under the HRPWorld.com Racing banner in the Sports Touring I and II classes in the Grand Am Cup.
With the #43 Orison Marketing Planet Earth Motorsports Corvette parked due to extensive bodywork damage, Planet Earth Motorsports partners Orison Marketing, EVAPO-RUST, and GOJO are set to partner with HRPWorld.com Racing at Mont Tremblant in their quest for the STII Championship.
"The Phoenix Promotions effort is also in the hunt for the Sports Touring II Championship, and with three races remaining, we didn't want to detract from that at all," added Nonnamaker.
The HRPWorld.com Racing effort will have four King Motorsports Acura Integras at the Mont Tremblant race. The three Integra LS models will run in the Sports Touring II class, while the fourth Integra, a Type R model, will campaign in the Sports Touring I class.
The three car effort in STII will include brothers Will and Wayne Nonnamaker in the #41 Integra and Tony Nuzzo and Don Velcio in the #44 Integra. The drivers of the #42 STII Integra have not yet been finalized. Michiel Schuitemaker will partner with Peter Doane in the #40 Type R in the STI class.
Will and Wayne Nonnamaker are tied for second in the Driver's Championship, sitting seven points out of the lead. While they attempt to make up ground on the leader, they will be threatened by their teammate, Tony Nuzzo, who sits in fourth, only 26 behind them.
The three hour / 250 mile race for the Grand Am Cup at Mont Tremblant will take place Saturday, September 14th at 2:30 PM. The race will be aired on Speed TV on September 28th at 5:00 PM.
