Powell Motorsports tops Grand-Am Cup field
MONT-TREMBLANT, Quebec (September 19, 2003) -- The points leaders of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series showed why they are on top of the standings during the opening day of practice at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant as they all posted the quickest lap times in their respective classes.
The No. 58 Red Bull Porsche FABCAR Daytona Prototype of Brumos Racing led the field on Friday by nearly two seconds, posting the quickest time of the day with its 1:31.739 lap at 103.991 mph. The Bell Motorsports No. 54 Chevy Doran JE4, which trails the Red Bull Porsche by only one point in the standings, turned the second-fastest time of the day with its 101.855 mph lap in 1:33.663.
The No. 33 Girard Perregaux Ferrari 360GT of Scuderia Ferrari of Washington topped the GT class during practice with its 1:35.595 lap at 99.796 mph, while the Heritage Motorsports No. 48 Mustang was fastest in the GTS class with a 1:36.426 lap at 98.936 mph.
In Grand-Am Cup Series practice for Saturday's Mont-Tremblant 250, Powell Motorsports was tops in both of Friday's practice sessions. The No. 11 Sunoco Corvette clocked its fastest lap of the day in the morning, putting together a 1:43.376 lap at 92.284 mph. The Foxhill Racing No. 79 Porsche GT3 Cup was second fastest in Grand-Am Cup, turning a 1:45.033 lap at 90.829 mph in the afternoon.
The Schuitemaker Motorsports No. 33 Nissan 350Z was tops in the Grand Sport II class with its 1:49.241 lap at 87.330 mph, while the Honda of America Team No. 69 Acura RSX-S was fastest in the Sport Touring I class with a 84.857 mph lap in 1:52.425. The HRPworld.com No. 43 Acura Integra LS led the Sport Touring II class with its 1:57.569 lap at 81.144 mph.
Rolex Series qualifying for the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant will get underway on Saturday at 12:25 p.m., and the Grand-Am Cup Series Mont-Tremblant 250 will begin at 2:25 p.m. The green flag will fall on the six-hour Rolex Series enduro at 11 a.m. on Sunday. SPEED Channel will broadcast the start and finish of the race live. Opening coverage will begin at 11 a.m. ET and continue until 1 p.m. ET. SPEED Channel will return to the race at 3 p.m. ET and follow it through to the checkered flag at 5 p.m.
