Jersey Time For Burrows and Hopwood
Millville, NJ (14 July 2010)--After nearly a month between rounds, Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood will be back in GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge action this weekend as the series visits New Jersey Motorsports Park for round eight of the 2010 championship. The duo will once again share the controls of the No. 12 Kia Motors/Infinity Audio Kia Forte Koup for Kinetic Motorsports in Saturday's 2.5-hour enduro (SPEED broadcast July 25, 1:00 PM).
NJMP's 2.25-mile circuit is one that has seen the former champions shine on, having scored a top-five qualifying result last season and a run to seventh after a slow start to the weekend the previous year. The Kinetic Motorsports group will target continued improvement with the Kia Koup as Burrows and Hopwood look to contribute to moving the entry up both the team and manufacturer championship standings once again.
In addition to a quick test day with Kinetic, the month break has seen the drivers keeping active away from the track as Hopwood has traded in his chalk for something more fun as he moves from full-time teaching to spending the summer as a camp counselor. Burrows has also kept his foot in it, working a variety of experiential marketing programs for a variety of firms while also racking up the mileage on his road bike to keep in racing form.
"It's been a great summer so far, but it's been way too long since the last race!" said Hopwood, who was the first driver to lead laps for Kia in GRAND-AM competition. "So I'm really looking forward to the weekend. This track requires some patience in the long corners, and it is crucial to have your line right for a fast lap and hopefully we can put the Koup's strong handling to good use this weekend. I am sure that (Kinetic Motorsports team members) Lee (Webb) and Joey (Kim) are rested up from a very long weekend at Mid-Ohio, and we can bring Kia another race finish this weekend."
"Last year we were very quick at New Jersey, but we had some bad luck in the race," said Burrows, who will debut a new helmet design this weekend. "Besides not blowing too much money in Atlantic City, our main goal this weekend is the same as it has been all year long. The faster we are, the more laps we get, the more we can keep developing this Koup with Christian (Rushforth) and the rest of the team. We're very mindful of the fact that Kia is fifth in the manufacturer championship and we really want to bank as many points as we can on that here in the final three races of the season."
