Fernando Scattolin heads for Mid-Ohio
MONTREAL, June 21, 2006 - Quebec driver Fernando Scattolin is on his way to Mid-Ohio, where he'll drive in his third Grand Am Cup race of the season. He'll rejoin his team, Blackforest Motorsport, and will share the wheel of the number 3 Mustang GT500 with co-driver Scott Turner Sunday.
After two notable performances despite some bad luck, Fernando aims for a result more in line with his talent this weekend. "I like Mid-Ohio a lot, says Fernando. It has a lot in common with the Mont-Tremblant race track. The track goes through a couple of rises and descents, and the setting is really beautiful."
Team manager Brian Nott also looks forward to the weekend. "Fernando should do well in Mid-Ohio, he says. It's a technical track, and that should suit his driving style. We are really pleased with his performance in Daytona and Laguna Seca. Hopefully we won't be crashed into as a result of another driver's mistake. We could easily score a podium."
Fernando will want to keep his passing streak alive, after turning a 36th place into a 20th place finish with an injured car in Laguna Seca. "I hope that if I pass 16 cars again, this time it will put us on the podium, says Scattolin. The team has been top notch, and the support I got from my sponsors and my fans really motivates me to keep pushing hard."
The Grand-Am Cup series is the offspring of the late Motorola Cup, and is integrated into the NASCAR empire. It features modified tourism car equipped to race. Starting grids for the series generally have over 50 cars split in two classes: GS (Grand Sport) and ST (Street Tuner). Fernando Scattolin and Blackforest Motorsport will compete in the top GS class. The series counts 10 events, mostly contested in the United States. The sole Canadian stop of the series will be in Trois-Rivieres, on August 4, 5 and 6.
