Curran Scores Second Consecutive KONI Victory at Mosport
Curran & Holtom deliver Chevrolet and the Cobalt SS another win with the Georgian Bay racing team.
KONI ST star Eric Curran is thankful to have found winner's circle for two races in a row, but knows it takes a complete team effort to do so. "Two in a row is never easy, especially in such a competitive class with over 40 cars and such talented drivers in KONI Challenge. The Georgian Bay Chevy Cobalt SS team has been working very hard for the last four years building a strong Cobalt package and their hard work is paying off. We are more prepared than ever in 2008 and desperately want to win a championship. We have come so close in years past and are determined to finish the year with a championship."
Curran's success over the years in ST has come from the special bond and partnership with co-driver Jamie Holtom. "Jamie and I have built a great driving relationship and work very well together. He and I have been teammates in the Cobalt SS for three years and have won eight races together in that time. Our driving styles are very similar; our seat position is the same and we are both anxious to win races and a championship. The pairing works very well on the track. We're pretty busy guys when we're not racing together, and don't get to spend much time together outside of the race weekends -- he's at school and I'm racing in other series and running my car dealership."
With early success in the 2008 KONI ST season, thoughts of a championship are beginning to influence Curran's approach to the remaining rounds. "It's not easy trying to maintain the points lead that we have, and we can't get excited too early in the year, but we're certainly looking at the big picture.
"We have a lot of races to go and staying out of trouble with our Cobalt SS is the goal. Hopefully our driver's points lead will be there in the end of the year, along with maintaining the manufacturer's points lead for Chevy."
As Curran's win tally continues to grow, he attributes much of that success to the wide variety of cars he races on a frequent basis. "I believe I have a leg up on a lot of the other drivers because I drive so often.
I've done races in Rolex, KONI Challenge, American Le Mans, World Challenge Touring Car and GT, and plan on a Busch race later in the year! It's a lot of driving, but it keeps me fresh and is always a bonus even if not in the same car or team two weekends in a row!"
