Burrows and Hopwood take seventh consecutive race finish in debut season for Kia Koup
LEXINGTON, OH (19 June 2010)-- Auto racing truly is a team sport, and there was an impressive display of that maxim on Saturday afternoon as the hard work of the Kinetic Motorsports crew allowed Trevor Hopwood and Adam Burrows to bring the No. 12 Kia Motors/Infinity Audio Kia Forte Koup home for another GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race finish on Saturday in the EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
The run to the checkered flag marked the seventh consecutive race finish for the former champions in the Kia Koup machine. While the ambition had been to once again lead laps and score a top five finish as the duo had done at Lime Rock Park, the race finish still brought a sense of accomplishment after the tireless efforts from the Kinetic Motorsports crew through the full race weekend.
The duo of car chief Lee Webb and first mechanic Joey Kim will sleep well after the Mid-Ohio weekend following several late nights and early mornings as the team rallied to repair the Kia after some small mechanical setbacks forced significant work to be done in order to have the Koup ready to go at race time.
"This weekend was all about Lee and Joey," said Hopwood. "Those guys worked so hard, just like they do every weekend. For us to come back from that motor change and have a car that brought us another finish was huge. Hats off to Lee and Joey."
Burrows and Hopwood kept tabs on the temperature while making the most of the strong handling the Koup had on offer to move up from 28th on the grid to take the checkered flag in 18th in the Street Tuner classifications.
"We've had the opportunity to race with several teams in GRAND-AM and have been very fortunate to work with some very good organizations, but the effort that the Kinetic guys put out this weekend was astounding," said Burrows. "We had a few problems with overheating and had to stay out of the draft as much as possible just to keep as much air over the nose to keep the temps in check. Thanks to Lee and Joey for everything that they did this weekend. This wasn't the finish that we wanted, but the finish was all we wanted and we did that again."
The two will look to keep that string of race finishes going in one month's time for round eight at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ.
