KONI points leaders Burrows and Hopwood ready for Mid-Ohio
(Mansfield, OH) 21 June 07--Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood are looking to grow their slim championship lead in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge ST Class this weekend at Mid-Ohio for round seven of the 2007 championship. The duo are coming off yet another podium performance, having scored second place last weekend at Mosport International Raceway in Canada.
But with just one point separating the two from the rest of the KONI field, Mid-Ohio could prove crucial in the season-long championship battle. But this kind of pressure is exactly the kind of thing that Hopwood enjoys, particularly at Mid-Ohio.
"The last time I raced at Mid-Ohio, it was the last race of the season, and the only way I could take the (SCCA Northeast Division GT-1) championship was to win," said Hopwood. "So that was exactly what I did. Hopefully we can have another weekend like that here this time around."
Burrows has his own battle stories from experience on the twisty track, which will feature some thirty-three entries for Sunday's 400k-race and is slated to get underway at 2:45 PM EST. Burrows won the Mid-Ohio round of the American Cities Racing League Championship in a Sports Racer his last time out at Mid-Ohio.
"This is the kind of track that has you grinning inside your helmet," said Burrows. "We should be up against some stiff competition again this weekend but hopefully we can just keep our momentum up and get more points towards the championship. The Turner Motorsport guys have done a great job turning everything around to be ready for this race after being up in Mosport, so hopefully we can reward all their work with a good result."
