Automatic Racing Looking Forward to Challenging Competition at Mid-Ohio
LEXINGTON, Ohio -- Automatic Racing heads into next week's Grand-Am Cup race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with high hopes for what should be one of the most competitive Grand Sport battles of the year.
Jeff Segal and Joao Barbosa will be back behind the wheel of the No. 90 BMW M3, and for them the competition will begin with qualifying. Every time that he has handled the qualifying duties this season, Segal has earned a second-row start. During the last round at Lime Rock, Segal was joined by Todd Snyder, who gave Automatic Racing their first overall pole.
As for the race, the No. 90 crossed the finish line in third at Laguna Seca with Segal and Barbosa behind the wheel, and both will be hoping to have a repeat of the podium finish. Although Mid-Ohio marks only the second time this season that the two have driven together, Segal and Barbosa were co-drivers in Rolex Series competition in 2005, earning a best finish of fifth in the GT class.
Segal made his debut with Automatic Racing at Mid-Ohio last season. His race ended early when the shift lever broke, but a lot has changed in a year. "The cars have improved a lot, especially with the testing that we did after Daytona," said Segal. "Our car is working great, and with a year of experience I'm a lot more comfortable with the BMW."
As for his favorite part of the track, Segal names turn one. "I love turn one; it's awesome," he enthused. "You go through that corner at such a high speed, especially since you're coming off of the front straight."
Emil Assentato and Nick Longhi will be co-driving the No. 91 Automatic Racing BMW M3. The pair are coming off a finish of ninth at Lime Rock. Kris Wilson and Dave Riddle will be back in the saddle with the No. 09 BMW M3, also.
The Grand-Am Cup race at Mid-Ohio will be held on Sunday, June 25, and the green flag waves at 1:00 p.m.
