GRAND AM DRIVER RETURNS HOME
COLUMBIA, SC (June 20, 2006) -- Andy Brumbaugh will be competing in the Grand-Am Cup race June 23-25 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. He will drive the #62 Mazda RX-8 along with Billy Johnson for the ROAR Racing Division of NRG Motorsports Management.
"I am really looking forward to going back to Mid-Ohio," said Brumbaugh. "I was born in central Ohio so this is very much a home track for me. I spent a lot of time there when I was little and had good races there in professional open-wheel racing."
"Pairing two professional drivers is what it takes to run up front in a series as competitive as Grand-Am Cup. The team has worked really hard, completely rebuilding the car," said Andy. "I love Mid-Ohio and I am anxious to see how we stack up against the competition and the track."
Andy will also be spotting for the Riley-BMW Daytona Prototype of Southard Motorsports as driven by Shane Lewis and Craig Stanton.
Brumbaugh is the only American and the youngest driver ever to win the prestigious Canadian Formula Ford Championship. He is now racing sports cars full time and has driven Porsche, Lexus and Mazda cars in Grand Am Cup, both GS and ST classes. He has also raced a Porsche in the Grand Am Rolex series.
