Auberlen back as co-driver as Bell looks for more than just the pole

(21 May 2009) Lakeville, CT--Even though it is only his first season racing at the GS class level, Matt Bell has been on a hot streak in Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge competition, racking up a record three pole positions in a row, including a track-record setting lap last weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Unfortunately, the points standings don't reflect that turn of speed, as the last three races have not generated the points Bell is hungry for. In the three pole-winning races that followed up Bell's remarkable run to victory at Daytona, contact from another competitor and a pair of mechanical set-backs have plagued the campaign for Turner Motorsport, which has scores of championships to its credit.

So while Bell is hoping to grow that impressive streak with another front-row starting spot for Monday's Road Racing Classic at Lime Rock Park, it's the end of the race, rather than the start, that he's most concentrated on this weekend as he once again shares the driving duties in the No. 96 Turner Motorsport H&R Springs/StopTech Brakes BMW M3 with Bill Auberlen.

"It's been a little bit frustrating to have the strong race starts that we've had, but not be able to come out of the weekend with the points to go with that," said Bell. "But hopefully, our bad racing luck is behind us and we can get back on the podium this weekend at Lime Rock Park. This is Turner's hometown track so it's the perfect place to do that."

Lime Rock Park's ultra-quick 1.53-mile circuit has been repaved since the series last raced on the Northwest Connecticut facility, and Bell is relishing a fast run on the East coast.

"I really like Lime Rock Park and I think it suits my driving style," said Bell. "Bill (Auberlen) has an awesome record there and hopefully we can add to his win count this weekend. The laps are so fast, that you have to be spot-on with your pit strategy, and as the team showed with the ST win last week, that ability to make good strategy calls is something that makes Turner special even beyond how the team prepares the cars."
