Holtom and Curran Look to Increase Points Lead at Grand-Am Cup Round 5: Lime Rock
Jamie Holtom and Eric Curran go into this weekend, the Grand-Am Cup 200 at Lime Rock Park, aiming to increase their Drivers Championship Points Lead. The pair has finished no worse than fourth in their 01 ClearSCADA Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged car in what has turned out to be a stellar season. Two wins, a third and a fourth position have given Holtom and Curran a 22 point lead after four races.
"We've had a great start to the season, Eric and I", commented Jamie, "But we can't let the pressure up now. We finished third at Phoenix based on strategy not outright speed. Putting the stock exhaust systems on our Cobalts didn't help our pace at all. But Georgian Bay Motorsports and the GM Performance Division do a superb job in everything they do so I'm confident that we can do some more development and get some speed back."
The Lime Rock event will be the first of two races of the 2006 season at a track that Jamie has never driven before, the other racetrack being Miller Motorsports Park.
"In the conversations I've had with other drivers, Lime Rock seems to be a rhythm track with a few corners that require a brave driver. Typically I'm very strong at that type of race track, and our Cobalt SS machines are handling better than they ever have before. I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can do. A win is within our potential."
Curran, who lives in East Hampton, Massachusetts, considers Lime Rock his home-track, where he has been racing since 1999. He has done more than twenty races at the historic circuit and is a wealth of knowledge that Jamie hopes to tap into en route to the duo's third win of the season.
"Eric has a tremendous amount of track time around the Lime Rock track and has won many races here", commented Jamie, "I'm really looking forward to being able to use his experience to help us get a positive result for both Georgian Bay Motorsports and General Motors."
The Manufacturers Championship is very high priority this weekend, and Jamie and Eric will attempt to log another first place result to maintain and grow Chevrolet's lead.
"Our chief concern for the weekend has to be the Manufacturers Championship. Chevrolet is leading, but only by 3 points. Georgian Bay Motorsports, Team Cobalt California and Powell Motorsports are all going to work as hard as possible to put the Cobalt SS cars up front."
SPEED channel's tape delayed broadcast of the ST event from Lime Rock Park can be seen Sunday, June 11 at 1 PM EST.
