Burrows and Hopwood Head Home To Lime Rock Park; Home turf for 2007 KONI Challenge Champs
Adam Burrows, Trevor Hopwood To-Do List:
KONI Challenge Championship - Check (2007)
Pole Position at Lime Rock Park - Check (2007)
Podium At Lime Rock Park ??
Lakeville, CT (20 May 2009)--No points for finding what's yet missing on this list--it's pretty clear what the champs have in mind for this Saturday as they team up once again in the No. 198 Fischer Skis MINI Cooper for the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge ST Class event at Lime Rock Park.
The track is the home KONI Challenge event for Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood, who have both scored pole positions and race wins at Lime Rock Park in Spec Racer competition. The two will do their own "Memorial Day Double" this weekend as they are entered in the SCCA double-Regional at New Hampshire International and will be in race action on Sunday. The weekend is the 25th Anniversary celebration for the category, and the two KONI Champs will relish racing against each other nearly as much as they like sharing the car in KONI competition.
"This is a big race for us," said Hopwood, who is coming full circle this weekend, having made his very first KONI Challenge race start at Lime Rock Park in 2006 as he teamed with Randy Smalley, who is now the driving force behind RSR Motorsports. "It's right in RSR Motorsports' back yard, it's where Adam and I first met and raced against each other, and it's the closest race for most of my family, so there should be a good group of people here to cheer us on. We've been looking forward to this race ever since singing to drive the MINI for RSR, and I can't wait to see what running on this new pavement is like."
"We've had a lot of good runs at Lime Rock, but not the results really to show for it, so that's the main goal for us is to get the best result of the season," said Burrows, who was tapped by Lime Rock Park for some television appearances in advance of the race week to promote the event. "We'll both have a lot of friends and family here this weekend, and iRacing will also be here with their mobile marketing display on the midway, so I'm looking forward to seeing those guys as well and hopefully we can bring RSR a podium on Saturday."
Qualifying will set the grid at 11:50 AM on Saturday, with the race start coming shortly thereafter with a 2:30 PM ET scheduled start for the 2.5 hour event.
