Knobel Racing Joins forces with GroupMetro, S.A. for Dominican Republic event
Knobel Racing announced today that GroupMetro, S.A has signed on as primary sponsor for the teams Porsche 996 in the up-coming Miller Grand-Am Cup race to be held in Santo Domingo March 11-13, 2005.
GroupMetro is a leader in the luxury travel and leisure industry in the Dominican Republic operating a top quality group of tourist-oriented companies such as MetroYachts, MetroTours, MetroCountryClub, as well as the Embassy Suites hotel and Thrifty Car Rental companies in Santo Domingo. According to Barry Ellis of Knobel Racing, "We were very excited when we learned the Grand-Am Cup series would take us to the Dominican Republic in 2005. Besides the long relationship we have had with our great friends at GroupMetro, we know how enthusiastic the country is about motorsports and we look for this to be a very well attended event! Additionally, two of our team members at Knobel Racing, Hector Rojas and Rafael Rosario are originally from the Dominican Republic and still have family there. I guess that makes this a hometown-race of sorts for us".
Knobel Racing began competing in the Grand-Am Cup series late in 2004 at the "hurricane-delayed" Miami 250 in Homestead Florida. Although it was the team's first Grand Am Cup event, they finished a strong second place with the help of good pit stops and solid strategy.
Additional sponsors of the Knobel Racing Porsche for 2005 include Hop-A-Jet Worldwide Jet Charter, Cayman Overseas Development and Stone Technique.
Drivers for the #88 Porsche will be, Fraser Wellon of Mississauga, Ontario Canada, Frank Rossi from Kleinberg Ontario, and Barry Ellis of Ft. Lauderdale Florida.
