Strong Showing at Homestead Prepares TRG GS Teams for Iowa
Petaluma, Ca. (April 17, 2007) - TRG is headed to the new Rusty Wallace racing facility in Iowa after their strong showing at last weekend's Grand Sport Miami 400. After only their second race, TRG showed why it is the current GT Champion and took the lead of the race in the late stages.
All three cars performed well, but had minor problems that kept them from stepping onto the podium. The #41 Carlson/Mitchell Rubber Porsche of Ted Ballou and Andy Lally led for five laps late in the race before a fuel pick-up issue caused them to drop back and finish 5th. The #40 CDI/Carrera Designs/Apex Graphics/Cohen Financial car of John Bibbo and Scott Shroeder endured some power steering gremlins to cross the line in 36th, while the #39 DigiTrust/Adam's Polishes car, driven by Grant Maiman and Duncan Ende, finished in 37th after a slight collision while on track. After six months of development, the cars are nearly ready and showed their true potential for the first time.
Team Owner Kevin Buckler discussed the weekends events: "It was really inspiring to see the 41 car take the lead of the race and hang on to it until our late race stop. Andy and Ted both put in terrific drives, but we have a brand new reserve system on the fuel cell and will have to adjust a few small things. The 39 and 40 cars both ran strong at points throughout the weekend but had a few minor incidents. We spent a lot of time developing these cars and are seeing the fruits of our labor- maybe even a little sooner than we expected. It was clear to me that we could have won this race. We still have a ways to go but the TRG cars will be at the front of the grid for the rest of the season. We are headed to Iowa with excitement and confidence."
A quick trip north will land the teams at Iowa Speedway for the fourth round of the KONI Challenge, to be contested this coming Saturday, April 21st at 3:30pm (EDT). Following that, the KONI Challenge will race at Laguna Seca on May 19th, and Lime Rock Park on May 26th.
