Revised Schedule Set For Rolex Series and Grand-Am Cup Events at Homestead-Miami; Rolex Series Airs Live on SPEED Channel; Same-Day for Grand-Am Cup
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 8, 2004) -- A new live telecast on SPEED Channel for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and same-day coverage for the Grand-Am Cup Series on the leading motor racing network are among the positive developments to come out of the one-week postponement of the Miami 250 weekend, which is now scheduled for September 17-19 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
On the heels of Monday's announcement that the Miami 250 weekend was postponed due to the state of emergency in Florida, Grand American Road Racing Association officials today announced that the Rolex Series Miami 250 will now start at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, September 19 and will air live on SPEED. The Grand-Am Cup Series ¡El Combate de Velocidad! will begin at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 18 and will receive same-day coverage on SPEED beginning at 10 p.m. ET.
Weekend activities at Homestead-Miami Speedway get underway on Friday, September 17, with Rolex Series GT and Super Grand Sport (SGS) classes practicing from 9:20 to 9:50 a.m. ET. The Daytona Prototypes will join the GT and SGS machines on track beginning at 9:50 a.m. and will have the track to themselves from 10:50 to 11:20 a.m.
At 1:00 p.m., the Grand-Am Cup Series sees its first activity on the 2.3-mile speedway road course with an hour-long practice session, followed by another Rolex Series all-skate from 2:10 to 2:55 p.m. A 55-minute practice session for the Grand-Am Cup Series from 3:40 to 4:35 p.m. wraps up Friday activities.
Saturday's schedule begins with Grand-Am Cup practice from 9:00-9:50 a.m., followed by Rolex Series practice from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. At 11:10 a.m., the Grand-Am Cup ST class begins its 15-minute qualifying session, with the GS class slated to qualify from 11:35 to 11:50 a.m. At 12:50 p.m. a 15-minute Rolex Series GT and SGS qualifying session gets underway, with the Daytona Prototypes on course for qualifying from 1:15 to 1:30 p.m. The day concludes with Round 7 of the 10-race 2004 Grand-Am Cup Series, ¡El Combate de Velocidad! at 2:45 p.m. The race is scheduled for 250 miles (109 laps), but is subject to a three-hour time limit.
Following a 30-minute final practice session for the Rolex Sports Car Series from 8:40 to 9:10 a.m. on Sunday, September 19 will be Round 9 of the 12-race 2004 schedule, the Miami 250. The race will take the green flag at 11:00 a.m. and is scheduled for 250 miles (109 laps) or two hours and 45 minutes.
