HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- After a one-week delay because of Hurricanes Frances and Ivan, Jason Martinelli is looking forward to returning to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Grand-Am Cup 250 on Saturday, September 18.

Martinelli will be driving the No. 08 Automatic Racing BMW M3 with co-driver Don St. John in the 250-mile race.

Because the race weekend has been condensed into a two-day format to give Hurricane Ivan plenty of time to move away from Florida, Martinelli and St. John will have two practice sessions followed by the race, which will be gridded according to points.

Martinelli made his Grand-Am Cup debut in the previous round at Mid-Ohio, so the No. 08 Automatic Racing entry has not yet accumulated many points. Martinelli is optimistic about starting near the back of the field.

"I've been to Homestead a few times, always in a BMW M3. The track is great for the car, so I expect that we'll have some fun working our way toward the front," enthused the Woodbury, Connecticut resident.

This weekend will be the first time the 28-year-old Martinelli has driven the Automatic Racing BMW at the track, and he is anxious to turn laps in it around Homestead's 2.3-mile, 11-turn road course.

"We've made a lot of changes to the car since Mid-Ohio," he commented. "It's got a little more power, and should handle great. We're setting up the car based on what the team ran at Homestead last year, where they got on the podium. It should be great."

The Grand-Am Cup 250 will get started at 2:45 PM EDT on Saturday, September 18.

Martinelli is sponsored by JJ Snacks, Good Hill Mechanical Contractors, Inc., and the J.S. Karlton Real Estate Investment Corporation.
