Burrows and Hopwood Seek Podium Return at Homestead
Homestead, FL (10 March, 2008)--The first time 2007 KONI Challenge Champions Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood raced together at Homestead Miami Speedway, the duo qualified on the front row before recovering from a pit-road miscue to come home in second to score a podium result in just their second career Grand-Am KONI Challenge race start.
So heading into this weekends Grand-Am Fan Appreciation Weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway, there is good reason for optimism for the two as the KONI Series stages round 2 of the 2009 championship.
Racing the No. 198 Mini Cooper S for RSR Motorsports, Burrows and Hopwood will look to come home with a strong points finish after an encouraging debut race outing with RSR Motorsports at Daytona came to a disappointing and early end.
The Mini, which offers go-kart like handling and great braking, should be well-suited for the infield section of the oval-based 2.25-mile facility, although the bigger-bore competition might have an advantage on the long run from the backstretch to turn one. But for the two champs, that will all be part of the challenge to make the most out of the Mini's strengths in Saturday's 2.5 hour event.
"I got the chance to visit the RSR Motorsports shop last month, and it was great to talk with (RSR Motorsports Crew Chief Tim Marren) about how we are going to approach the weekend in Homestead," said Hopwood. "We will have a good starting point with the car set-up wise, and hopefully we can just keep improving through the weekend. We know that this might not be the best track for us, but we're going to fight for as many points as we can take here."
"That weekend was an early highlight for us racing together, and a great way to kick-start our championship run to get on the podium at Homestead," said Burrows about their 2007 Homestead debut on their way to making a record number of podium appearances. "It'd obviously be great to do that again, and I know the team has been working really hard so we'd like to bring some points home and get some momentum going. It's been a long cold winter in New England, so we are all looking forward to getting down there and seeing some palm trees and knocking off the icicles with some time racing down in Homestead."
